I've long felt that it's absolutely insane the amount of head-scratching that writers and pundits go through when they prattle on about Iowa's difficulties surrounding education.  The fact remains that careers in teaching are routinely the subject of ridicule, which as far as i know, is a feature unique to the United States.  It's also rediculous when &quot;free market&quot; conservatives do a 180 when it comes to teacher pay.  It seems their simplistic metaphors don't apply when it comes to providing a fatter carrot on that particular stick.</description>
