Bush was against unauthorized and illegal wiretaps before he was for them. Thank god the New York Times, Liberal flagship ‘paper of record’, sat on this story for over a year while ‘flip-flopper’ charges were hurled at the hapless John Kerry. I mean, the less the American citizenry knows what a thieving, lying cabal of jackbooted thugs BushCo. is the better, right?
...there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires—a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we’re talking about chasing down terrorists, we’re talking about getting a court order before we do so. It’s important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.

Having this story released last year would’ve monumentally changed everything since last November. And I can’t believe the gall Bush had to bring Sulzberger and Keller into his office to try and get them to not print the story. First he violates federal statute and the constitution, next thing you know he’s trying to use the Oval Office to intimidate the press. What else is next? An illegal, immoral, and falsified case for war?
Btw, glad to see the Iowa Underground folks got a blog going. And you’re using wordpress, which is even better! I’m adding a link to you guys right away.
And quick question Tristero—are you the same tristero who was blogging back at Digby’s a while back?
Different guy though I suspect we both enjoyed reading Pynchon’s ‘Crying of Lot 49” – folks also call me pdx on occasion as I currently reside in Portland, OR so I’ll answer to either. You can take the boy out of Iowa….
Perhaps it will serve as a gateway salvo into a full-blown impeachment process. Eh, one can always hope, right? When you reflect upon the absolute apocalyptic tizzy the media was thrown into over Clinton lying about receiving a blowjob in the White House – it’s surreal to reflect on how they’ve repetedly given short shrift to the criminality of the Bush/Cheney cabal. JBizarre and gauling.
