I love it, I love it, I love it. The Z man is the best Hawkeye ambassador there has ever been. It is a shame that he does not have a more prominent role in our broadcasting team. As for Kinnick stadium, it is going to be the classiest stadium around for many years. I have grown to love it more than many of the new, classless NFL stadiums.
As a Hawkeye today I wish the UNI Panthers all the luck in their championship game tonight.
Zabel’s ouster by Learfield was similar to Bowlsby’s unceremonious firing of Tom Davis – both deserved better.
I can still remember watching Zabel doing his bowling show from some dank alley in Des Moines back in the day. He was able to make a ‘sport’ I couldn’t have given a flying flip about oddly compelling. Sure would be nice if they’d bring him back for halftime interviews or some such thing.

That’s legendary Iowa broadcaster Jim Zabel, by the way. In my humble opinion, Dolphin still hasn’t filled his shoes.
